It has been a difficult time for all of us, having to adjust to the new reality brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation remains uncertain for everyone - and for households facing hunger, the coronavirus fallout including school closures and job disruptions can present an even greater threat. We think about the person who has been looking for work and will likely have to wait weeks longer before hiring starts again. We think about people experiencing homelessness who will be amongst the most impacted, with the least resources to cope. We think about kids who won’t have access to services they rely on daily.
Food insecurity has reached a whole new level and at Eden Food for Change we are responding how we do best--feeding hungry neighbours in need. Our friends at Kothari Group were so inspired by our community coming together during this time, they have generously offered to match all donations to Eden Food for Change, up to $25,000, for the Kothari Community Challenge. This means your gift can do even more good and help more of our neighbours access immediate aid. Join us in helping our neighbours in need and all donations will be doubled in value!
No one thinks that they are going to need to use the food bank, until they do. In Canada, 44% of households have already been laid off or lost work while 18% are anticipating lost work. Furthermore, 19% will need to use a food bank or some service providing free food ( Angus Reid Institute ) . These effects will be felt long after the pandemic is over and we resume our normal lives. We want to make sure we are there for our community so no one has to choose between going into debt and feeding their families. Strengthening our community with a donation is one meaningful way you can make a difference. Your help allows us to keep our doors open and provide food hampers to families, including fresh, good food like milk, eggs, and protein.
