As our community continues to grapple with one of its most challenging times in recent history, we asked for your help in providing immediate assistance to our most vulnerable neighbours. We were completely blown away by the tremendous outpouring of support that came from the Kothari Community Challenge benefiting the food bank at Eden Food for Change. Even in the midst of crisis, if there is one thing we are good at, it is taking care of each other.
In less than a month, we were able to surpass our $25,000 goal, to be matched by Kothari Group, raising over $50,000. This is only possible because of YOU. We could not have done this without every single person who donated, shared, and spread the word near and far. Thank you for helping us keep our doors open and remain on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis by helping food insecure families in Mississauga.
Our work at Eden Food for Change is not over yet. The Region of Peel is citing food security as an urgent and unmet need, and 27% of calls to 211 have been regarding food security issues in April, the highest percentage of connections by far. We are preparing for these long term effects by increasing our capacity to reach out to vulnerable populations as well as increasing the amount of food we give to each family who steps through our door. Your donations have had an immediate and tangible impact on our services and in providing emergency relief to those in need.
We will be counting all donations until April 30th towards the Kothari Community Challenge, so there are still a few days left to give if you haven’t yet had the chance.
We are humbled by your astounding response in accepting the challenge and so grateful we live in a community that cares about each and every one of its members. A feeling that won’t soon be forgotten, even as we are able to gather again and resume with our busy lives once more.
As always, we are all in this together!
Warm Regards,
Naz Zarifian
